The Cafe Series II Virtual Show and Sale is underway. If you haven’t already checked it out, this link will take you to the previous post featuring full show details including images, backstories, and how to go about making one or more of these paintings your own.
Just for fun, I pulled out images of the cups and mugs that are featured in the show, and turned them into a 45 second video. You’ll see it posted above. Hope you enjoy it.
Also, because the theme of the Cafe Series centers around enjoying a cuppa, I searched out some popular tunes featuring tea and coffee. Thought you might enjoy them, too.
This link will take you to a Cuppa Playlist on Spotify. Play those tunes while you enjoy your morning, afternoon or evening cuppa. I’ll be thinking about you and singing along!

Welcome to my Virtual Café Series Art Show & Sale – Part II.
The Café Series of images celebrates those moments of connection spent savoring a cup of tea or coffee – perhaps with a sweet treat, a pen and journal, or something of beauty for company.
Sometimes we’re solo – connecting with ourselves and reflecting on our thoughts. Other times (pandemic aside) we’re enjoying the company of others. Both ways count as life’s sweet pleasures.
May these paintings trigger sweet memories of connection in your world.
My plan was to introduce this second set of paintings in the Café Series at our 2021 Artists’ Workshop Spring Show. However, with the pandemic cancellation of our show for the second year in a row, that was not possible. Instead, I’m presenting this limited set of all new images this weekend in the form of another virtual online gallery. Here’s what you need to know.
Each of the nine images was painted with watercolor on a stretched 10 x 10 canvas. They’ve been sealed with a spray varnish so there’s no need to protect them under glass. They are fitted with hanging wire and ready to mount on your wall – no framing required.
Each painting is priced at $300 (all taxes and distanced doorstep delivery within Saskatoon included). For buyers beyond the city, additional shipping will be billed at cost.
The images are officially available for purchase from now (April 29) through the weekend until the end of day, Sunday, May 2. To request a painting, contact me in one of two ways including your full name, address, phone number, preferred form of payment and your first and/or second choice of painting:
- Via email at pat@patkatzart.com
- Or via phone at 306 934 1807
Offers to purchase will be accepted in the order in which they are received. Payment can be made by e-transfer or credit card.
Saskatoon deliveries will take place during the week of May 3rd. At this point, I’m planning to do a round of deliveries on the evening of May 5, but am entirely flexible about other dates and times.
Read on to see a larger image of each painting, a short description, and its number in the series. In the 3×3 grid above, the paintings are numbered in order from left to right, top to bottom. (As in #1 is top left and #9 is bottom right)
I hope you enjoy exploring the Café Series, and that these paintings will find their new forever homes. Perhaps one will come to live with you.

The upcoming first weekend in May was scheduled to have been our Artists’ Workshop 2021 Spring Show & Sale. However, given the ongoing pandemic situation our show has been cancelled for the second year in a row. And rightly so.
Still, it’s disappointing not to be able to share the work created over these last few months.
In the absence of our group spring show, I have decided to once again mount an online solo event. As with last year’s offering, I will be presenting nine all new paintings in the Café Series and inviting you to make them yours.
Watch for snippets of images to be shared over the next few days. The full set of images and complete details will be shared Thursday evening (via FB, IG, LI, and the Pauseworks Studio blog).
The Cafe Series II event will run through the weekend from Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 2.
I’ll be happy to make distanced doorstep deliveries here in Saskatoon in plenty of time for Mother’s Day! For purchases outside Saskatoon, paintings will be shipped via Canada Post.
Stay tuned!

In non pandemic times, our Artists’ Workshop group holds our annual spring show and sale at Grace Westminster Church. Since we haven’t been able to do that this year or last, we have a new way to share our art with you. We would like to invite you to our Slow Art Day Window Art Show.
Some artworks will be displayed facing outward in the windows of the two coffee shops and more will be shown indoors, with ample space for viewing safely. Grab a coffee, have a seat outside, or do a slow walk by and discover the art of nine local artists.
City Perks Coffeehouse is located at 801 7th Avenue North and Sparrow Coffee is at #120-536 2nd Avenue North. They offer curbside pick-up, takeout, and patio seating.
How Did You Do That?

‘How did you do that?’ is a question I was asked more than a few times after I presented the paintings in the December 2020 Glimmers Of Hope series. It just so happens that I took some photos of the process so that I could write about it and share the magic with you. Here’s how it went.
First, I cut watercolor paper into five inch squares.
I prepared a number of different colored ‘mats’ for the work by applying masking tape to the paper squares.

On these cold wintry January days in Saskatchewan, I like to recall our travels to warmer climes.
When I work with a source photo from some place hot and sunny, it transports me back in time and space.
Such was the case last week, when I pulled out this photo taken a year ago on the streets of Phillipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side of Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
My first step was to create a values sketch with sepia pen in my sketchbook.
It’s a great way to work out the darks and lights in a composition and make decisions about what to include and what to omit from the painting.

Thanks so much to everyone for your interest in the Glimmers of Hope series of paintings that I presented during the month of December.
I loved hearing how much joy people got out of the images.
Here are some final bits of info about the Glimmer series.
First of all, the entire collection of images has been scanned and uploaded to my Fine Art America website. It’s sweet to see them all together in one place. You can access them using this link.
This means that they are now available for purchase as wall art reproductions printed on paper, canvas, metal, acrylic or wood in sizes ranging from 8×8” to 30×30”. That would be a way to own one or more of the images that got away. Or, a way to create your own Wall of Hope collection.
The ‘Bough Wow’ image is shown here in the upper left as a stretched canvas print.
Because their square shape is well suited to it, I’ve also made them available for reproduction on cushion covers and tote bags.
Click on images as shown on the FAA website link to get the full details.
Secondly, 22 of the 31 original images found new homes in December. That means there are still 9 original paintings available.
The images featured in the 3×3 collage to the right are the ones still looking for a home:
- #7-Free & Easy
- #9-Autumn Wonder
- #19-Venetian Charm
- #20–Coffee Chat
- #23-Moraine Lake
- #26-Unboxing Day
- #28-Travel Memories
- #29-Serenity Now
- #31-Holly Jolly
If you are interested in any of these originals at the special December price of $50 + $5 postage, just drop me a line and let me know.
Once again, thanks so much for your interest in my art. I value you greatly and wish you all good things for 2021.

I spent a few hours this morning as a student in a couple of on-line watercolor workshops. Although I might prefer to be face to face in a workshop setting, still it’s a treat to be able to learn from artists all over the world from the comfort of your very own studio.
Thanks to Dillman’s Art Workshop Retreat in Wisconsin for sponsoring a live one hour demo paint-along with Colorado watercolorist, Janet Nunn.
Janet works with Dr. Martin’s Hydrus Liquid Watercolors, but I improvised with my own tube paints. She demonstrated techniques featuring crumpled wax paper and a credit card.

- Here’s my version of her winter scene. I love the energy in the sweep of the sky and the snowdrifts.
Dillman’s regularly sponsors online demonstrations with all kinds of artists. Follow their Facebook feed to be alerted to upcoming programs and enjoy replays of past sessions.
Immediately on the heels of that session, I spent two hours in another paint along workshop with UK urban sketcher, Ian Fennelly. Ian is known for his lively, detailed, colorful sketches created with Tombow markers, permanent ink liners, and watercolors.

- Even though I live in the middle of the prairies, it was fun to imagine myself seaside as I recreated this rickety beached boat and its sentinel seagulls.
Fennelly’s session was sponsored by EtchrLab, maker of fine sketchbooks. They offer an extensive range of online mini-lab workshops at extremely reasonable prices.
There’s lots of online learning to be had if you keep your eyes and ears open. Have fun!

Through her window on 2021, Elanna sees us moving forward and traveling light – sustained by what’s within us.
Thanks to the two dozen contributors who shared their hopes and wishes for 2021 – via FB, IG, email and Linked In.
I loved hearing from you all.

Happy New Year everyone. Here’s one bonus image in the Glimmer series: Looking Out.
This one’s not for sale. I’m giving it away with thanks for the support I’ve received from all of you for December’s Glimmers Of Hope initiative – the kind words, the encouragement, the purchases – all of it!
Just reply here or send a note (to pat@patkatz.com) and tell me what you hope for when you peer through your ‘magic window’ looking out on 2021.
I’ll be drawing the name of the lucky recipient from all the comments made in by noon on January 2nd.
Wishing you all the best for a wonder filled year ahead.
